Time Frames - Periodicity on Charts Menu in MetaTrader 4 Platform
Periodicity is commonly refer to as chart time frames by many traders. On the MetaTrader 4 platform.
The button below is used to select the periodicity to trade with. This button can be accessed on the MetaTrader 4 as shown below.
On the MT4 these a are:
- 1 Minute – M1
- 5 Minute – M5
- 15 Minutes – M15
- 30 Minutes – M30
- 1 Hour – H1
- 4 Hours - H4
- Daily – D1
- Weekly – W1
- Monthly - MN
How To Know Which Time-Frame You are Using
A common question especially if you are new to trading would be how to identify which time frame you are using:
There are various methods as Shown below:
Use the above Menu as Shown above
In the above example once you select the periodicity button under the charts menu, then the list of time frames is shown and the one that is currently selected, the one that you are using will be highlighted with a different color, on our above example this is the 1 Hour(H1), whose Icon on the left is highlighted in light blue.
Use Periodicity Toolbar
This toolbar is by default located at the top of the MetaTrader 4 and has all the time-frames marked as shown below. The one that a trader is using will be marked differently from the others, the selected one will be “indented” as shown below:
Use the information displayed at the top left corner
At the top left corner of the chart, the time frame is displayed as shown below:
When you open a chart you can then use the above three methods to know which periodicity you are trading with.
You can also use the tabs, if you are trading many charts. To view this tab, Go to “View Menu” then Select “Charts Bar”. The following bar will appear that you can use to navigate and it indicates the currency pair and the time-frame.
